Free DIY allowance

No charges stated for the Brighton and Hove sites on the Veolia page (the DIY charge table there is described as East Sussex County Council's). Limits instead: 'Only 6 small bags (roughly 25kg each) of soil or hardcore will be accepted per calendar month, per household'; 'Only 4 sheets of plasterboard ... per calendar month, per household'.

From Brighton and Hove's pages, quoted or summarised.

In England, councils can't charge householders for their own DIY waste up to two 50 litre bags, or one item up to 2000 x 750 x 700mm, per visit, for up to four visits in four weeks. They can charge above that. Check your load.

Good to know

Hove site height limit is 6ft 1in (about 1.85m). Veolia lists DIY charges (£6.50 per bag above two 50-litre bags a week, asbestos £8, tyres £2.70) but ties them to East Sussex County Council's changes; not applied to Brighton & Hove here.
