Some details couldn't be confirmed

The council's pages didn't give everything below clearly, so some answers say "not stated". Check the council's own page before you go.

Free DIY allowance

The council's pages didn't describe a free allowance.

In England, councils can't charge householders for their own DIY waste up to two 50 litre bags, or one item up to 2000 x 750 x 700mm, per visit, for up to four visits in four weeks. They can charge above that. Check your load.

Vans, pickups and trailers

Permit rules not stated

Not on Havering pages. Redbridge's council page (same ELWA system) says vans and trailers must book and van drivers bring V5C logbook; not confirmed for Gerpins Lane.

Do I need to book?

Booking rules not stated

Per Redbridge council's ELWA guidance: booking needed for vans, trailers and restricted (DIY/building) waste; Havering-specific page defers to ELWA site, which was unreachable.

Yes, bring proof of address

ELWA borough residents (Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge) must show proof of address.

The tip and opening hours

Opening hours are our short summary of the council's page. Bank holiday and Christmas hours often differ.

Good to know

Gerpins Lane is Havering's only RRC; Havering's page sends residents to the ELWA site for hours, ID and restricted waste rules. Havering residents may also use other ELWA centres (Chigwell Road, Redbridge; Frizlands Lane, Barking and Dagenham; Jenkins Lane, Newham), but restricted (DIY) waste must go to a site in your own borough with your borough's authorisation. Havering says 'It is free for you to dispose of your household waste' at the other ELWA centres (https://www.havering.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/find-rubbish-recycling-sites/2).
