What the council says about dates: Pages dated 10 August 2026

Free DIY allowance

DIY items (rubble, bricks, tiles, plasterboard, cement, asbestos, kitchen units, bathroom suites, doors, windows, fencing etc.) 'aren't classed as household waste', so there are limits and you need a free recycling centre permit to bring small amounts; permits for Gatewarth only; up to three visits in a 12 month period; only items on the permit can be tipped. No charges stated.

From Warrington's pages, quoted or summarised.

In England, councils can't charge householders for their own DIY waste up to two 50 litre bags, or one item up to 2000 x 750 x 700mm, per visit, for up to four visits in four weeks. They can charge above that. Check your load.

Vans, pickups and trailers

Permit needed: Free ('Permits are free')

Permits only for Gatewarth (none issued for Woolston or Stockton Heath). Phone at least 48 hours ahead; up to three visits in 12 months; give dates, items and vehicle details; bring permit number and proof of address. A single trip in a van/trailer with a small amount of household waste needs no permit. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes and trailers over 3m long or 1.5m wide not allowed.
